JODI FINDS A PARKING SPOT ALONG US 412
AN OKLAHOMA SUNSET
FRIDAY, October 08, 2010:
Only walked til 2 pm to day. Some concerns emerged from Jodi that making only 21 miles was not getting the job done..."at this rate it will take to April to get there...". Sorry folks...last 2 days were 30 miles +'; today, I ran out of gas. Not quite up to full strength yet to push 30 + miles day after day...but, Jodi s right...gotta keep the pedal to the metal...tomorrow I will try to do better.
Walking today was almost a non-event..made 23 miles to the PANHANDLE RV PARK. The Owner (Tom?) chatted a bit (was 2 pm, remember) then said we could stay the night at NO CHARGE..."my contribution to your walk."
Jodi was so quiet the rest of the day, I could feel her chomping at the bit...
But, the RV Park was spotless, modern, with super clean toilet & shower. We also had electricity to use the computers and charge up batteries again.
I thoroughly enjoyed staying there and the afternoon rest did me good.
SATURDAY, October 09, 2010:
Was late getting on the road. Sol was already 2 or 3 degrees up in the East. I apologized to Jodi for my late start - especially after taking yesterday afternoon off - and took off towards Guymon at a near trot.
Arriving at Wall-Mart, Jodi was parked, but nowhere to be found. I gulped down a BIG glass of chocolate milk, grabbed two nut bars & was ready to continue walking when Jodi rode up on her bicycle.
Thanks for being here for me...see you down the road...as I rushed out the door, back on the street.
For the next 3 hours I forged ahead in near 100 F. heat when Jodi passed me and stopped SPIA.
I went inside, gulped another chocolate milk & hit the pavement. Jodi admonished ...you have to EAT ! Two hours later, I caught up with Jodi (she passed me earlier on).
This time I opened & heated a can of stew; ate 2/3 of the can, .oops...ate 2/3 of the CAN OF STEW. another chocolate milk, and continued to the town of HARDESTY, OKLAHOMA. Jodi was waiting in a tiny Rest Area in the town of 200 souls. I walked up to SPIA...
Jodi...I'm gonna do one more hour...please come pick me up..
I did. She did.
It is now pitch black out at 8 pm. I have finished off the Stew with another chocolate milk.
Now, I am a bit bushed. Both feet are sore, but the rest of me intends to get a good night sleep...then take a big chunk out of the 50 miles to the next town, BEAVER, OKLAHOMA.
Walked 9 miles to & through Guymon, 18 miles to Hardesty, and a final 3 miles out US 412.
Total for the day: 30 miles...OK, but must do better. Still not at full strength after the Month off, but comming along....just gotta avoid injury which happens so easily when "pushing".
Pics must wait for AC plug-inn. Must get a new HP Battery...goes flat in 40 minutes.
