Trying something new – new for me: writing Blog in Word for later transfer to the blog…too many times I lose my narrative while writing in “Blogspot”. Here goes…

Today, we were up and about in the Springfield RV Park about 6 am. I cooked my usual Oatmeal with Brown Sugar & Raisins and was on the road to CAMPO, COLORADO, some 21 miles South on US 287. A mile or so out started road construction. A long line (about 15 18-wheelers) was formed waiting for Pilot Car escort.

I continued walking thru the restricted zone for a couple miles, when an official truck stopped me…

You have to wear a hard hat to be in the Construction Zone

No problem…may I borrow yours?

Can’t do that..

OK, I’ll just walk to the actual Construction & borrow one to walk thru it

OK

He drives off.

Ten minutes he is back

Superintendent says you cannot walk here AT ALL…You must turn back. OR I’ll give you a ride..

OK, thanks…as I jump into his truck.

Shawn drives me a couple miles more to the end of Construction, lets me out…and I’m on my way again unhindered.

Jodi caught up with me at 10:30 am, parking in a church parking lot. I made a bite, drank a BIG glass of Chocolate Milk and was again on my way. I had walked 15 miles so far.

I walked another 6.5 miles, arriving in CAMPO, COLORADO at 12 Noon.

Jodi had passed me by and was waiting in Downtown Campo…all of a single CafĂ© and a Truck Stop. All other buildings were Closed or empty. Events did not look good for Campo.

I had another bite & started walking for the Oklahoma Border, some 9 miles South on US 287. Jodi pulled into the Truck Stop. I walked on by, arriving at the OKLAHOMA border at 3:30 pm..Jodi was already there filming Video as I walked into her parking area.
All told, I walked 30 miles today.

We found a roadside rest stop on the Oklahoma side. After a bite at DQ (just awful…threw my chicken sandwich away after one bite), we returned to the Rest Stop, where we are settled in for the night.

It is 335 miles to Oklahoma City, our next major destination.
