SOUTHERN APPROACH TO WALDPORT BRIDGE - THE "WINDY" ONE
ENTRANCE TO "ALSEA" HARBOR - FROM THE BRIDGE LOOKING WEST
THE ROADWAY OF THE WALDPORT BRIDGE...BRIDGE IS COMPARATIVELY NEW, EXCELLENT ROADWAY, AND LOTS OF ROOM ON THE 4-LANES.

I WAS CARELESS IN HANDLING UPLOADING...LOST THE PIC OF THE MAIN OFFICE OF EDGEWATER COTTAGES...BUT, THIS IS ONE OF TWO BEDROOMS IN THE "COMMODORE'S CABIN.

BEACH VIEW IN FRONT OF THE EDGEWATER COTTAGES...THAT "STUMP" HAS A HISTORY GOING BACK BEFORE THE WHITE MAN CAME TO THESE SHORES...IT IS PURPORTED TO BE A STUMP OF AN ANCIENT REDWOOD TREE. IT IS FEATURED IN LOCAL MUSEUMS WITH PHOTOGRAPHS OF MODEL "T" AND "A" CARS DRIVING THE BEACH PAST THIS STUMP BACK IN THE 1920'S...LONG BEFORE US 101 EXISTED.APPARENTLY, TRAVEL WAS ON THE BEACHES - ALWAYS AT "LOW TIDE", WITH FERRY BOATS AT EACH RIVER CROSSING...MUST HAVE BEEN FUN

I am the first to say today’s photographs leave a bit to be desired... It was blowing and raining most of the day…lucky to get any pics at all.
The rain last night made a quagmire of the RV parking…storm fronts coming in off the Pacific Ocean are VERY intense…SPIA literally trembled under the pounding she received almost continuous all night long. When I started walking back North on US 101 at 7:30 am, over that brutally windy bridge…it kept at me. Without proper rain gear, I would be soaked and freezing from the off-shore near hurricane force winds. (Hurricane winds begin about 75 mph).
Walked for 1.5 hours back toward Newport…turned around and got hit square in the face with the winds…were at my back going North. Arriving back at SPIA, I kept walking South on US 101 for another 5 miles…turned North and received a good push in the back from the winds.
On the way back, stopped in at the EDGEWATER COTTAGES, operated by Husband and Wife team, Chuck and Cathy. After explaining what I was about, they were pleased to show me two of their cottages…the Commodore’s Cabin and Rustic. Each Cabin has unique décor and a name to suit. Some other names are Sea Vista, Chart Room, Wheel House, West Wind, and Pine Rest. Each has a wood burning fireplace (one is Electric), and full kitchen and bath. All have views over the Ocean Surf.

Edgewater Cottages is one of a large number of similar opportunities along US 101 between Waldport and Yachats, Oregon
Moved SPIA to YACHATS, OREGON, 8 miles South of Waldport. Stepping out of SPIA to begin my walk back North on US 101, it started to HAIL…wind-blown ice balls really hurt…jumped back into SPIA until it passed by…then walked in only rain and wind through Yachats and on for another hour – about 4 miles – and BACK to SPIA.
Drove SPIA to fill the gas tank and then drove South over CAPE PERPETUA to a State Camp Grounds…only to find it CLOSED. Returned to Yachats and another 6 miles to the State Tillicum Camp Grounds, where SPIA is in Spot # 11, directly facing the open Pacific Ocean Beach and Surf…if you have never listened to the Pacific Ocean Surf…it closely resembles a CONTINUOUS roar of a 747 Jet Airplane taking off. That roar goes on ALL THE TIME.
DAILY UPDATE: Walked about 30 miles today…count 15 miles…no rides

Learned from Cathy why I am not receiving rides…another convict is on the loose for the past two or three weeks…apparently he shot a Policeman In Lincoln City, Oregon and has not yet been caught…so, folks are nervous about hitch-hikers.
In the Morning, will drive SPIA to a day-only parking area along Cape Perpetua…park, and walk BACK down US 101 to Yachats…then back up and down the South side of that mountain and BACK to SPIA. Then drive South another 10 miles or so and repeat it over again.
I see from the Map, that there is another State Campground at HECETA HEAD. There is next to NO overnight parking along this part of the Oregon Coast…except in designated campgrounds. Found that my “lifetime” US Government Parks Pass (must be 62 to get one) gets me a 30% discount…something new I discovered this evening.
Belated Happy Valentine Day. Never forget the first Valentine I ever received…I was 9 years old…it was from SAM.
