VESUVIUS IMAGES

Recent blogs have included references and photographs of the active volcano VESUVIUS a bit South of Naples, Italy.  Below is a recent (01/01/2013) image from the International Space Station looking down on VESUVIUS.

To the left is the mountainous AMALFI Peninsula.  The Island of CAPRI sits about five miles (to the right - North ) off the tip of Amalfi Peninsula (not in image).

About 30 miles to the North (not in image), lies the city of Naples.  On the Northwest edge of Naples lies the active volcano SOLFATARA.

These two volcanoes appear to be connected beneath the city of Naples...i.e., when one is bubbling lava, the other volcano is more or less dormant.  Wonder why I have been unable to find Internet information on this aspect...having lived next door to SOLFATARA for many years, I have first hand experience with both VESUVIUS and SOLFATARA.
