POST 1502; HALF MOON BAY, CALIFORNIA; 12-22-2015
Last night we did not blog. We did, however experience a late afternoon and late into the night driving some treacherous sea-side cliffs in a pounding rain - wind storm.
Earlier, we spent time visiting the HEARST CASTLE ... interesting from an historical viewpoint; Mr HEARST and I differ somewhat on architectural taste. California created a STATE PARK from the HEARST Properties ... a park visited by great numbers of visitors.
From the HEARST CASTLE all the way to the city of HALF MOON BAY, Highway 1 is a turning climbing diving twisting turning heavily traveled roadway. Last night it was particularly challenging as my recent bout with decreased night vision has not altogether returned. For hours I tried to convince myself to stop the stupidity and get off the road before I did something regretable.
I finally did pull off and parked at a sandy highway maintenance area and promptly went to sleep. At 12:30 AM (midnight), was awakened by torrential rain pounding on SPIA, actually shaking her. Then from outside I heard WATER RUNNING. I cracked opened the car door ... in the dark even I could see a small river of boiling water tearing at SPIA's back tires - parked on a somewhat steep slope -.
As I pulled on my shoes, I visualized us sliding with the swift flowing water into the black abyss.
SPIA once again took us out of danger as 1/4 mile of driving on Highway 1, BIG SUR Road Maintenance STATION popped out of the still pounding rain. Permitted or not, I turned in to the paved parking lot, chose a level marked parking spot ... shut down SPIA, took off my shoes and snuggled under my 4 comforters and slept without disturbance to 7 AM.
We proceeded to gather dozens of pictures and meet new friends and discover new places before once again pulling into a MAC DONALD to create today;s blog update.
Please say HELLO to DOLORES CANNON, part owner of a tiny eatery AUSTINOU's in CANNERY ROW of MONTEREY City, where I enjoyed my only meal of today. As I was leaving, DOLORES gifted me a Baggie filled with goodies. I have been rushing all day long, have not even opened her gift.
Thank You, DOLORES ... until next time ...

Please say HELLO to BILL (WILLY) RUIZ, a fellow diner at MAC D in MORRO BAY. Willy gifted me a new "Clear Text" NEW TESTAMENT together with a hard-back Children's Color illustrated BOOK of BIBLE Stories.
No matter our take on any and all things, knowledge of all things is essential if, for no other reason ...
... KNOWLEDGE ... KNOWLEDGE OF THINGS = POWER.
Some have recently accused me of being "intelligent". WRONG !
INTELLIGENCE does not = POWER ! POWER does NOT = INTELLIGENCE !
KNOWLEDGE = POWER.
Do NOT dismiss - out-of-hand - ANY KNOWLEDGE .. it one day may be your salvation.
Most images of today's blog are a bit tainted. Most are taken in FOG of varying density AND an intense rain.
California PACIFIC OCEAN COAST only a few miles from the HEARST CASTLE.
Everyone's friend. SEAGULL ask for little and will patiently wait - even in pouring rain - for a tiny miniscule ... a"share" of that yummy tidbit he closely watches you devour.
My long time friend Harland Eastwood fed "his" Seagulls as they landed on his fore arm to receive Harland's offering.

Massive Sculpture of SARDINE Fame ... a fitting tribute to the fishermen who made it happen.
CANNERY ROW is blessed with many cuisine choices for it's many world wide visitors.
CANNERY ROW buildings are truly part of the life of MONTEREY BAY.
Many world cities once the "CENTER" of one Sea Food Industry or another are represented by stubs (two of which are seen in the above image) of "Pilings" which once held the buildings clear of the raging waters below...
...will MONTEREY CITY buildings live to die, leaving their "Piling" stubs to mark their historic past ?
Our CAMERA stands before the waters of MONTEREY BAY, giving Guests of the imaged HOTEL a expansive reach to unseen shrouded shores some many miles through sea mist ... just like the rainy day we have today.
...Oh, I simply enjoy images of trees.
I keep trying to re-learn how we used to communicate with Trees. Got some wild animals figured out, but trees are a bit more difficult.

It was delicious !
DOLORES ... a Lovely Lady ! Thank You.
PLEASE SAY hello to RICHARD DUNNUCK, Manager of two specialty "family" clothing stores in MONTEREY.
Richard and I shot the breeze for a very long time. Lots of KNOWLEDGEABLE folks out there.
KNOWLEDGEABLE People tend to be POWERFUL ...
KNOWLEDGE = POWER !

After a full day today following the challenge driving and surviving a rather tempestuous RAIN STORM, I am, frankly a bit weary.
Even so, tomorrow we will touch San Francisco for a visit, cross The Golden Gate Bridge, Climb Mt. TAMALPIAS and it's grove of massive RED WOOD TREES (MUIR REDWOOD GROVE) on the flanks of the mountain, then visit STINSON BEACH, where some 60 years ago I courted a certain young Air Force NURSE, DOLORES SHEPPIS; Trust you are well, Dolores.
Therein lives yet another story
