Today we visited the QUILIUTE INDIAN TRIBE, some 15 miles from the "Famous" "TWILIGHT" City of FORKS, Washington.
Being the day AFTER NEW YEAR EVE, not much was going on. We did, however find folks to visit with us ... and the weather co-operated with beautiful SUNSHINE and temperate enough that coat was not absolutely necessary.
I have visited FORKS and LA PUSH Indian Village On The SEA for over 70 years. Both are quiet laid back communities existing for the large volume of Tourists. Even on January 01, 2016, motels and RV Parks were well attended.
RV = RECREATIONAL VEHICLES.
Please say HELLO to KIM, tending the AMANDA PARK Store near the LODGE where we enjoyed our $90.00 NEW YEAR DINNER. Yes, my life has known more than a few GOURMET events ... and I was pleased to find such quality in CUISINE and AMBIANCE deep in Washington State OLYMPIC MOUNTAIN PARK.
UNTIL late morning, the countryside is shrouded in SNOW-like "FROST".
EASY to look at, but down right slippery to drive on frosted roads.
We spent most of our day on or near the waters of the PACIFIC OCEAN.
Highway US 101 often skirts beautiful CLIFF-SIDE Beaches.
HOH RIVER rushing to the Ocean.
FIRE is a constant danger ... even in watr soaked Rain Forest.

TWILIGHT has lost most of it's glitter some three years ago in FORKS.
Our first look of the Indian Village LA PUSH.
Since a wee TOT, I have visited LA PUSH (since World War Two).
LA PUSH is still LA PUSH.
The Lady from SEATTLE ... The Lady with impossible LONG and GOLDEN Tresses.
Together, we visited for treasured Moments.
Life sometimes brings fleeting moments ... remembered into the timeless future ...
This image is of such a moment.
RIP RAP ... guarding the erternity that has been and will continue to be : LA PU
LA PUSH ... OF THE QUILEUTE INDIAN TRIBE.
Lots of folk siting in the beauty that is LA PUSH ...
MESMERIZED it seems by moments to carry through those difficult moments that lie ahead...
... like "...filling one's batteries for the journey to come".
LA PUSH RIVER and INNER HARBOR

That long WALL is a "ROOST" for hundreds of SEAGULLS.
Above image is a HAND-HEWN CEDAR INDIAN CANOE of 24 feet length.
This design has a MAST for a small sail, designed as a "Work Boat'.
The "SHED" above is designed specifically for creating CANOES from huge CEDAR Trees.
In 1962 I was a member of such a construction crew for a few days. LA PUSH was constructing five 40 foot CEDAR Canoes which were subsequently paddled some 300 miles to SEATTLE to take their place - along side the new SPACE NEEDLE - in the 1962 Worlds Fair.
Today I spoke with tribal member who was 2 years old here at LA PUSH when I was allowed to help use my
ADZ to hew cedar chips out of our massive CEDAR TREE ...becoming a CANOE.
... another cherished moment to carry to the end .
Tourist RV PARK ... next to the Cedar Canoe Construction Shed.
In 1962, there was not a shed. We worked in the open field.

It is now very dark. Must finish my Salad, Post this Update, and find a spot for SPIA to bed down for the night.
Tomorrow, we visit another Native American Village.
Hi Bruce,
ReplyDeleteBe sure to greet Mick Dodge when you travel through the HOH rain forest.
